It was an almost complete surprise that the axis dutch 20th fleet manage to slip bind enemy lines to make an attacked to the hawaii base, the airforce was manage to scramble and sunk all the 20th fleets transport and a light cruiser under the de ruyter class
US 5th fleet under commander Turner engage the enemy fleet sinking both cruiser under java and tromp class...but the cruiser quincy suffer a slight damage from the shells of the dutch ships.

on the dawn of the 28t of march, the 15th fleet were also found by scouts...
the hawaii airforce fearing an invasion is in progress, sunk all transports... rendering the invading fleet powerless to conduct a land invasion.
the US 5th fleet engage the enemy 15th fleet, sinking all of its destroyers under the mutsuki class, where the cruiser vincennes firing the first shots and damaging one of the destroyers. the combined guns of the heavy cruiser manage to sink most of the destroyers and the livermore scoring a hit with its torpedoes...before getting hit also from enemy torpedoes and sinking to the ocean.
both the destroyer hammann and ward were also sunk in exchange of torpedoes with the the japanese destroyers.
the cruiser yubari manage to escape the engagement.

the light cruiser yubari were sunk by the coastal guns of hawaii defenders. but not until it managed to destroy several planes...
